Daughter rang me last night .sorry mum I made a mistake stepson breaks up this week for two weeks Easter holidays

He has behavior problems due to have a faulty gene .Is coming up 14 but with a mental age of about 6/7. Problem is though teenage hormones are kicking in and he is a handful. Only OK if he can do what he wants which isnt always what is OK

He is into the PC big time and is a wizz on PowerPoint etc . he will download multiple pictures of Justins House etc and then want to print BUT its the same print over and over. He exhausts my print cartridges in one day

SO the thing is do I opt for a quiet life and let him do his own thing OR tell him the printer aint working so no printing .

He is very verbal now too after not talking till he was 11 BUT his vocabulary is very vocal with swear words .

Am getting too old now I think . daughter does realize we are older but she doesnt know where to turn with him and really does appreciate me helping her out

It's so difficult isn't it? We have our grandchildren in the hols as well, fortunately ours have no problems except the usual sibling arguments so I don't really know how you manage to cope with your grandson.
Perhaps your daughter could buy some ink cartridges for your printer so he knows that if he uses it all in one go there are no more. Would he not understand that?

Failing that your last resort could be to say it's not working, what ever you decide I hope having him won't be too stressful for you.

As you say you are older so perhaps now would be the time for your daughter to look for alternative help.

Is there no help available to her in holiday times at all. It seems very hard, what would happen if you couldn't have him?

I would disconnect the printer and tell him it is broken you could put it away somewhere out of sight. Unless your daughter can afford to pay for extra ink cartridges to keep him occupied.

He will listen to you saying the print cartridges are expensive but it doesnt mean anything to when he is on his chosen path to PRINT PRINT PRINT .

He can throw the enormous tantrums when he wants too .

The problem is his mother never set any boundaries. even though Our daughter and his dad have had custody for 8 plus years his mum undermines them in every way she can.

Now he is hitting puberty he has no control of himself even though he has no concept on why

We knew puberty would be a problem because of his early years

No its a problem getting him looked after in the holidays.Hopefully he will be on a program in the summer holidays which is for various activities . he did go on it last year for two weeks and he enjoyed it BUT its only a summer holiday programme

If you don't mind me asking, how does your daughter deal with her step-son using the printer at home ? Perhaps she could give you the benefit of her way of curbing his constant printing?

He has his own PC but it isnt connected to the printer

Last week when daughter was ill she had been on her own PC talking to hubby who was on the continent and she forgot to log off!

HE then went on the PC and the printed as much as he could and exhausted the ink.

SIL wasnt happy .

Stepson although he has learning difficulties is very up on how to use the PC
