This family are giving me some right jip as she had a son as well around 1862/3 named Henry If I rember rightly and on his birth cert it says Fenley but if hubby was out of the country I am suspecting he was my great grandfathers son but put in her married name.

There is an image for that marriage. John was 38 and Hannah was 28. They are widower and widow and he was Sergeant in H.M. 37th Regiment. His father's name was John Finley and witnesses were John Seale and Mary Lee.

In the 1870s was alternating between being an in pensioner and an out pensioner at Chelsea Hospital.

The record also includes a letter from John Findlay late 87th the Fusiliers, written in St Helier, Jersey, 1878, seeking (re) admission to Chelsea Hospital.

He states he is a single man, yet elsewhere on the record there is a note saying he was admitted, character indifferent 22.8.1878, underneath which it says

"wife for information - if still on {Illegible] [Illegible] Illegible] followed by 20.9.86.

Looking back at the record again, it says he was admitted [illegible] in pension 1.8.'70, then reverted to outpension 1.9.'73. Admitted to in pension Chelsea Hospl 1.11.'75, reverted to out pension 1 Jany 1878, then back in again in August 1878.
