DL the desktop option disable the McAffee option ( unless you like McAffee).

This fixes some really bad Flash security problems.

There is an article on the BBC site re Firefox automatically disabling flash until you upgrade it.

The latest version of Firefox by default disables Flash but gives you the option of activating it on a site by site basis.

Flash remains popular for digital streaming because its is fairly easy to embed DRM within it. The html5 standard is not DRM friendly. I really cannot see this stand off being fixed however much Facebook and Apple wail and stamp their feet.

The BBC iPlayer now uses its own media streaming technology.

Mention of Flash possibly explains why we've suddenly got a banner at the top of the screen

"Firefox has prevented the unsafe plugin 'Adobe Flash' from running on www.genesreunited (etc) "

Advice for the IT illiterate please? Allow or Continue Blocking?

It depends largely upon whether you have the latest version or not.
