I know that my grandfather went to canada as a young man, in the early part of 20th century. How can i find out which year and how he travelled. He returned some time during 1st world war having joined the canadian forestry commision.
I am new to genes reunited and not up to scratch with negotiation of site.

His name was Horace Edward Hailwood, born in may of 1887 In Sheffield, I think he was about 18 when he wnet to canada as a single man
I know he was back in Scotland by 1918 where he was married .
I am sure he.was in canadian forestry commision, Just interested how he travelled and to which part of canada he went to

There's attestation papers for soldiers WW1 which really sound like Horace but the name is Thomas. He was born 6 May 1887, Sheffield, York and was living in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He was a lumberjack. His father was John Hailwood, Barnsley, York. He signs his name Tom Hailwood.
