Also he may have had an adjustment of tax on his wages as then you got a children tax allowence and he had no knowledge he was named on the birth certificate,so hence the re--registraion and a given chance to re-name your mum and put the birth in her then proper surname Hickey. |

Yes maybe so kay was so different back then its so fustrating not noing and it was very taboo then not to be married my nana was catholic :-0 |

Wow thanks for that input yes he may well of originated from london as i no my nana worked in hotels in london also , no middle initial unfortunatly shame as i think ive hit a wall again , really appreciate your input i cant believe the response ive had its great thanks everyone |

It must have come to light that the couple wasnt married or that the mother did the registration alone,maybe she didnt understand the registration process and whe nthe name of the father was asked she just went ahead and said.......possibly the father learn about it and he had no knowledge it had been done and without his permission his name couldnt be added. hence the ammendment to the birth registration........it may have come to light simply from then claiming family allowence as I belive a marriage date was needed,,,,, |

Ive just looked margeret thers no record for her other than the september one you found althoher date of birth is the 9th july her birth was registerd on 9th september , well at least ive found out something new today :-) ty |

Yes thats it altho i thought it was hickey as she was baptised hickey you see why im so confused lol strange as thers no surname registerd on her birth certificate back then , and why her mum stated the name boden formerly hickey when they wernt married ! , Istarted looking last year i tried contacting there work place to see if anyone knew of anyone who worked there in the 50s and local churchs but got nowere so im trying again and i appreciate your input ladies its nice to just chat about it , thanks ( ive just reread that and no her birthdate is july 1954 all other details fit tho ? |

Yes i have his surname its all abit strange as he is down as father" john boden "and he worked as a chef at the warwick hotel warwickshire in 1954 , but my mums birth certificate was ammended in 1955 to omit her farthers details , as im new to all this i havnt a clue were to start lol ( thanks for the replys im really stuck) |

So if he was on mum's birth certificate he must have acknowledged that he was the father. Was mum given his surname or her mother's? |

They wernt married :-( and i have all my nanas details and family but nothing for her farther it was all a bit taboo untill found out recently but unfortunatly theres no one to share details on the subject so alls i have is whats on my mums birth certificate :-( |

Your mum's birth certificate would have her mum"s maiden name. You could then find the marriage and the names of mum's possible siblings, if after 1911 using FreeBMD. |
