has anyone see the above show. iv'e just booked for 3 of us to see it ..plus the hotel for the night , the prices !!! mind you it is 5 years since we have been to London to see a show.i forget just how dear it is up there . :-0 edit 26 june 2016 just got back from our weekend in London .Kensington palace on Saturday pm , the show in the evening (it was brill). covent garden this morning before train home at lunchtime . I know things are dear everywhere but I ask you, 50p to use the loo at the stations £1 at covent garden !!! somewhat over the top ,I think ..(we didn't use them ,managed to find a church with some loo's. iris :-D

will do ,barry, but its not until the 25 june ,it's very rare that we have a night out like that ,daughter will be coming down from stoke on trent to join us ,which is why we are staying overnight . the show is only on until late aug (or so it said online.)

As the show was given a positive review on R4 I took my mum. She had seen the 1951 show and thought the new production much better. The songs are good but the story line is so-so. I have been to Drury Lane lots of times but never the N.L. which doesn't have too much ambience.

The choreography is top notch and adds a lot to the show.

I think I paid about £ 25 each which is hardly expensive!

South Pacific it isn't but we had a good time.

Did you go on a Wednesday matinee Rollo as the prices then are very reasonable.
My husband, dau and g.daughter are booked for July. My m-I-l saw it in 1927 - Paul Robeson was the lead.

I rarely go to any west end matinees - coach loads of tourists many of whom cannot understand English, most of the cast understudies, time off work. I did go to a matinee of Miss Saigon first time around and to be be fair it was well done but then how many musicals star a helicopter? London is a strange place at weekends and I am usually well away especially in the summer.

I went to Les Mis. ( not with my mother) and forked out £ 300 for two evening tickets in the stalls. Better value than Showboat imho. Cats cost even more 'cos I went to a scalper.

tip: every now and again when a Broadway show is closing you can get a value package of show tickets, 2 nights hotel and flights for buttons.

I love musicals, the opera and ballet all time favorite "South Pacific" narrowly in front of WSS.. I'd like to see "Chess" and "Never On a Sunday" on stage but so far no joy.

As well as the top commercial shows there is lots of music and dance in all major UK cities of terrific quality with prices from free to only a few pounds. Much better value than SkyTV.

Maybe TV drama and music are merging - it would not be very difficult to morph "Peaky Blinders" or Wolf Hall into a modern ballet for instance.

A while back, Rollo, I wrote that when it was on telly I did not watch it after the first part as the screen seemed far too dark. You mentioned the various television sets Rollo, and you were right. A friend bought my OH the DVDs and they were wonderful to watch on our newer telly. When this current series started I began to watch the new episodes and how much easier they are to watch.

I am thoroughly enjoying the series and I'd love to see someone produce it as a modern ballet.
