"An MP is in a critical condition after she was shot and stabbed during an attack in her constituency.

Eyewitnesses said Jo Cox, 41, Labour MP for Batley and Spen, was left bleeding on the ground by her attacker. A man also suffered slight injuries.

A 52-year-old man was arrested near Market Street, Birstall, West Yorkshire Police said. The MP holds a weekly advice surgery nearby."

Not the sort of thing you expect in England !!!

We have to expect anything these days, sadly. People aren't scared to use weapons and seem unable to control their anger or be rational.

As yet no one knows the motive, it could be personal or political, but a tragic thing to happen. I hope this lady makes a good recovery .

Thoughts and prayers for Jo Cox and her family.

A mother of two small children -it's truly terrible.

Just been announced that she has died.
