Dale is a great place - been there many times - love Pembrokeshire and spent many holidays there - particularly like Tenby which you can get to in a few hours from Cardiff

I have distant relatives in Tenby; but I've never been there. I might have to pay them a visit one day. Now where did I put my wellies and brolley? :-)

As a child our family regularly holidayed in Saundersfoot. The memories of sunny days out weigh the wet ones.

Returning there about 30 years with our own young family, there were more wet days than dry. The seasonal shops weren't selling buckets & spades, they were selling wellie boots and raincoats!

All the time I was a carer it was not possible for me to stay away from home overnight so we used to go to places for the day and, several times we went to Wales, from Chichester, because we had to have a bit of valleys.

The excuse was that there was a branch of Home Bargains in Caerphilly, although there were not many bargains after we had bought diesel to get there, and I wanted to see Caerphilly Castle because it was one of Edward I's (don't ask!).

Now we have branches of Home Bargains round here and I have seen the castle we have to think up another reason to go. Maybe we will even spend another night there.

We just love those valleys. I am sorry I never saw them when they were grim with spoil heaps so I could appreciate the contrast because they are so beautiful now.

Ann, I think Dale might have changed a bit since I was there. Most of the houses were married quarters for the men at the camp.

HMS Harrier was right up on St Annes Head and we used to walk down (literally :-)) on a Saturday evening to go to the Griffin Inn. After a drink - or two we had to walk the 2 miles back up a very steep hill, and as we had usually left it until the last minute we couldn't stop as we had to be back by 10.30pm. (Most of us were still under 21 - those who were older could stay out until midnight.) Anyone a bit drunk when we started was stone-cold sober by the time we got back!! Happy Days! :-) :-)

I well recall going to one of the beaches near Newgale and coming across a group of soldiers in German uniforms - made my blood run cold for a fleeting moment :-D

Jemima, OH has been sailing all his life, so, adventurous perhaps, but brave - no more so than someone whose hobby is rockclimbing, or skiing.

His main problem now is that all his friends are getting older, and one by one are becoming too old or decrepit to go with him. He has arthritis, but so far is still agile enough to keep sailing.

He is in Balamory (sorry, Tobermory on the Isle of Mull) today, waiting for the gales to blow themselves out and trying to dry his clothes in the tumbledryer in the Harbour Master's office!! :-)

I went to do a days work in South Wales one day last year. On the way home the driver who took us there got lost. We spent half the night driving across the Brecon Beacons :-( It was a shame it was at night. Had it been daytime, we could at least have admired the view.

I need my eyes tested, I thought it said why you should never go to wakes :-S

Only been to Wales once, back in my college days (late 60’s), when spending a weekend in Sandbach. My then boyfriend’s parents decided it would make a nice trip out for us all.
Clambered up a hill & sat for a while admiring the stunning view.

Thing I learned that day:
White hot pants should not be worn if you are planning to sit on a Welsh hill.
