Because it is :-D

It's 'Exporting' a copy away from Genes and will be sent to you as an email attachement.
If you were to be doing the reverse, Genes would be 'Importing' a copy ie uploading to the site.

Recently members have been saying that there have been delays in the Export. It should occur fairly quickly within a few minutes. If your export suffers a delay, contact Genes

[email protected]

They aim to reply within 3 working days

SWW

Notes that you have added will be included in the exported .ged file. But they will probably not be included when you upload to another software - it all depends on how the other software was written.

Also. Any images (.jpg, .pdf, etc.) do not get exported.

Jem - you'd be exporting a copy. The original would still be on here.

As the subject has been brought up...

If you export as a GEDCOM from GR, will it keep all the info from the 'Notes' box? I've not used other tree software for ages so don't know if all have this facility.

Just curious :-D

Can you Gedcom your tree to use on another site AND also still keep it intact, with saved records on Genes Reunited?

Unlike many others on here, I have actually enjoyed my experience with GR, and been very successful, but would like to have a tree on other sites also. It is useful to broaden information.

I have found ORIGINAL records on GR that I have not found on Ancestry or FMP, and vice versa.

Incidentally, the Original Baptism record that I found on GR cleared up a huge mistake on most peoples trees on Ancestry for an Ancestor of mine!
