How to copy entries from one tree to another?

I have been given access to other people's trees and wish to copy people from these trees onto my own tree without having to key in all the details by hand. I can copy entries onto the clipboard, but cannot work out how to paste them into my tree. For example, I copy several people onto the clipboard, and want to add them as siblings to an existing person on my tree. Can anyone help, please?

Sorry - the clip board hasn't worked for quite a while. You'll have to copy over manually. If you open genes in another window (not tab) you can stack them side by side so that you can see yours and the other tree at the same time.

Most of us would recommend you *not* copy someone elses research before verifying it for yourself, or at least only taking it as a guide. No one is perfect; we all make mistakes.

Charles ..

welcome to the Boards

You really should not copy straight from someone else's tree even if it were possible.

You should check their information against all and every documentation that you can find. Take all such information as a guide to doing your own research.

As TEC said, we all make mistakes, and we have all learned from past experiences

Thank you. That answers my question. I would not, of course, copy details without verifying them, but having done that, it could save time and avoid errors if a copy and paste was available. Thanks again for your help.

You can copy and paste, but you have to do one entry at a time. Really useful if there are a lot of notes, otherwise it depends how good your typing is. :-)

Put the two trees side by side, then highlight the entry, right click on the blue bit, click copy, put the cursor where you want the new entry, right click and click paste. It's quicker to do than it sounds. :-)
