If I pay my subs, or someone else pays them??

Another member paid my subs in 2013, which was a lovely thing to do, as I was having a very difficult year.

BUT... this seems to have affected my subscription.

:-(

Letter from "support"...........

Dear Catherine

Thank you for your email.

Looking at your account you previously paid £7.95 the last payment of this price was on 22/08/2012.

You receive the same lower rate when the payment is made within 30 days on the last payment expiring looking at your account the next payment was on 12/08/2014.

As this was outwith the 30 days you were charged at the new rate.

You do still receive a loyalty discount and now only pay £17.95.

Please do let us know if we can help in any other way.

With kind regards,

Natalie Gray, Customer Support
Genes Reunited Support Team

Loyalty discount? Triple the amount other members pay? I don't think so!

I don't understand the "outwith" comment, regarding payment on 12 August 2014, as my subscription date is 22 August :-S

You can't argue with them; they make it up as they go along.
It would save members grief if they just announced that on renewal, everyone will be charged the same rate and be done with it.

Im convinced that they make it up as they go along.

Looks like you need to pay 30 days in advance to keep your rate.

If renewal is dated 22 Aug,then it read that you were expected to renew by 24 Jul and "Tough" coz you paid just 10 days in advance.

It's ridiculous. I pay the higher sub too Scozz
I have also decided that I will not be renewing at the end of my current sub.
Why should I also be paying more than twice the rate of other members and GR say thats still a discount???

If the card registered to your account doesn't make the payment, then I assume that the system presumes that you have lapsed, irrespective of the fee being paid, or not,

(as I see it)

Bob - I think you are correct.

On one occasion many moons ago I was offered a free upgrade when I had helped the site on some occasions . I think several members went to the offices and as a thank you were offered this perk.

I accepted on condition that my membership would revert to normal the next time it was up for renewal.
Needless to say that didn't happen and I was charged a huge amount of money.
Luckily for me a very helpful member of staff who I had met sorted it for me.

Scozz - why don't you contact them again and explain that in effect you have had continuous membership and BTW could they sort out their stupid system ;-) ;-) ;-)

No if the card doesn't make payment they tell you and you can change the details before they consider you have lapsed.

My card has changed a couple of times and I am still on the fairly low rate.

I've got to the bottom of why I'm paying £8.96 for 6 months sub.

It seems that when I joined in 2008, I chose the 6 monthly option and auto renew.

As GR has never given me an option to change my sub from 6 months to annual, it seems that I'm now stuck in a cycle.
It would cost more to switch to annual which is currently £20.04 for a new customer.
(I don't expect GR could possibly cope with a request to switch to a discounted rate on a12 months sub. Eh??)

I am currently paying £ 8.96 for 6 months

For a new subscriber:
6 months is currently on offer at £1.50 per month= £9.00 for 6 months

My whopping "DISCOUNT" for 6 month renewal after 8 yrs membership, equates to a whole.. 4 pence !!
Yes! 4p.

Even at the "normal rate" of £1.66 PM for 6mths, my entire discount is still only £1.08

At least I didn't opt for a monthly payment.
It is currently £4.95 PM !!

How big a mess are the GR subs records?

I've sent lots of emails to them over the last couple of weeks, their replies basically say TOUGH! They haven't responded at all as to why my subs changed after someone else paid them..... and the 2nd year I was a member, they used a cancelled credit card (that's when I unticked the auto-renewal box).

I don't use GR records, I haven't had a hotmatch since 4th June (and it wasn't a match), I haven't made contact with any "new" rellies for years. The only reason I stay is for the boards. The way things are going, there will only be a couple of people left.

It's been fun while it lasted! :-D

If you want to keep in touch, please pm me, or try Facebook.

I had the same thing happen to me as did Von

I was approached by pm from genes to help their WDYTYA scheme they're were launching . You had to do so many looks ups every day

In order to do it they upgraded your subs with the assurance that at the end they would put you back to your existing subs with no penalties

Did they? Nope they wanted to charge me next time for the same level of subs

Fortunately then we still had helpful staff who immediately put me back on the right subs

Oh to have Alan and Estelle still around :-(

Trying to get ones point across to the GR staff member is frustrating and infuriating.
They have been evasive in this matter for years.
I questioned why members who had renewed a month either side of me were offered a special discount but I wasn't. The response was utterly illogical.
It isn't the cost, it's the principle - and being taken for a fool.

Perhaps I was also being penalised for taking the time to go to their office and help with the 2012 revamp.

I feel you annoyance Scozz

Liz ~ I've sent you a pm.

:-)

I agree Island.......... it's the principle, and I don't like being taken for a fool..... I don't like being charged more than others for the same thing (my Scottish blood won't put up with that!) :-D

Loyalty discount? Don't make me laugh. :-P
