I've had my ercol studio couch that long over 40 years that the exact same design although lighter wood, is back in fashion .

The salt and pepper set that was used in the programme my mum and dad had a tea set like that did not have the rest of it though

Our sideboard, bought in a second-hand shop for £15, is Edwardian and recently became a proper antique!! I don't suppose it's worth much though. :-(

Most of our stuff is inherited, good quality but none of it really matches!! It's all part of our family history but I doubt if our sons or grandchildren will want any of it. :-(

I can remember my parents' utility dining suite. They're still around, too. :-D

We still use my parents light teak extending dining room table, and their set of stacking side tables :-D

Nothing about your Ercol sideboard Sharron ..... but I while ago I had a clear out of my kitchen cupboards and gave a lot of dated tea-sets to a local charity. Watching TV a while after I recognised the same very distinctive 80s pattern of one of the sets I had donated being used........... apparently TV companies do source rummage/jumble sales to acquire authentic pieces for their filming :-)

Tried them all, Andysmum - most of those were real wood, (or pretended to be) not the trendy (this is obviously) formica!! :-D :-D

I have no formica in my house. I'd prefer ants. :-\

My mum and her second husband (the Fuhrer) only had Ercol furniture.
They took it to Portugal - hell, they even took the (non-Ercol) formica kitchen table to Portugal.
They were real 'trend setters' and had a 'space age' plastic double bed, with integral bedside cabinets - that came apart (easy to transport)
They ended up living in the Algarve a la Leatherhead, complete with swirly carpets. :-S

Your sideboard, though Sharron, reminded me of the incredibly awful sideboard/ drinks cabinet with matching table and chairs we (as a a family) had (before my parents divorced), when we first moved from caravan to 'own house', in the mid to late 60's.

This matching ensemble was covered in shiny, grey/pinky brown formica. The front of the sideboard had a swirly 'marble' effect of grey/pinky brown and cream on the doors. The chairs had a becoming seat of embossed cream vinyl.
I've tried to find it online, but it was probably too obscure (or awful) to have survived.
:-D :-D

Probably worth a fortune now!!

Ercol, G-Plan, Kai Christiansen, Stag. - all well-known brands of a certain era.

All still nice to look at, in my opinion (but I am of an age). :-D

In our travels we have had to get rid of some G-Plan and Ercol stuff - which I wish I could have held on to for it is comfortable, familiar and comforting furniture for me.

We still have some Ercol (kitchen), KC (dining) and Stag (a bedroom) and I am determined it will 'see me out'.

I still like looking at the latest designs though. :-D

You never know, Sharron, could well be. Ercol was very popular for a long time, I believe it was very well made.

I think it might be famous.

My parents never bought anything new and Fred would accept anything that was offered even if there was no room for it. Anyway, one of his customers gave him a sideboard. As far as I can remember, it was quite a good one, Ercol springs to mind, but it was of an era and shouted at anything else in the room.

When my mother died, along with the five transit loads of God knows what that I disposed of, some to the tip and some to the local museum that later moved to Craven Arms and became Lost Content, I despatched the sideboard. The museum had it and were approached soon afterwards by the Chichester Festival Theatre for the loan of a sideboard so it went off and was spruced up to appear on stage.

No doubt set dressers know where to get things and, tonight, I was watching Bobby and Tina and there in Tina Moore's front room was the exact same model of sideboard. I wonder if it was once mine.
