Gwyn, OH finally got to bed about midnight after I'd decided that the bathroom walls were so badly bloodstained that they needed repainting.

I know that it was midnight as she woke me up when she came upstairs :-D :-D :-D

Pat, the Peak District was a favourite area of mine and I've spent many a weekend camping and hiking in the area, particularly around Kinder Scout and MamTor :-D

I was in Cyprus early 1970s, although Eastern SBA rather than west.

I knew you were in Australia but thought I'd better ask as I've found a 3rd cousin who was in the same class as myself for the first 7 years of schooling and a 4th cousin for the 5 years at senior school. I suddenly thought are all the coincidences leading up to you being born in my home town of Walsall.

You're area is the edge of the Peak District which I love. I lived for a long time in Nottinghamshire the other side of the Peaks. My area was part of the Black Country :-\
Not the nicest of places to live with all the foundries. :-D

No, Pat, I was born in Prestbury, Cheshire, but now reside in Western Australia :-)

Indeed it is, Pat, I think that we also did the same Genealogy Course on the recent Future Learn course :-D :-D

I was on Akrotiri 1970 and 1971.

Dental centre July 1970 then sent to Episkopi back to Akrotiri Feb - March 1971. Went to the dental centre and the hospital dental dept.

Medic at Akrotiri 1970 named Scott, was with him at RAF Benson as well.

OH was 112 sqn at Paramali 1970 -1973.

Small world. :-D

I have many fond memories of Cyprus. I was there in 1970 as a member of the TAVR Medical Corps. We were based at Akrotiri ,with the Joint Services Health Unit, for our Annual Camp :-)

I have some disinfectant and plasters if you need them, hope your wife makes a full recovery. Witch hazel is good for your bruises Allan. ;-) :-D :-D

Just before lunch today, OH was working in the garden when she gave an almighty screech.

At first I thought that she was practicing for a part as one of the three witches in Macbeth, but, no, she came rushing in saying that she had gashed herself with a pair of secateurs!

Sure enough, there was a very nasty, and deep, cut on one of the fingers of her left hand.

As our secateurs usually reside wherever we drop them and assume a coating of rust, I advised her to rinse the wound so that we could assess the damage. The wound looked ugly, and my OH was saying that she felt shaky.

My immediate thought was that she was in shock so I administered a few large whiskeys. After those, I felt much better and was able to go into the bathroom to see how she was getting on.

The place looked like a slaughterhouse, blood everywhere.

I offered to take her to A&E, but that offer was spurned and she phoned our local GP. This was probably wise as we live just a few minutes walk from the surgery, but a twenty minute drive from the Hospital.

OH was able to see a Dr immediately (her own GP as it turned out) and within an hour she was back home with a body full of anti tetanus vaccine, a numb hand and three brand new stiches.

Instructions were to keep her finger dry for at least two days and not to do too much to aggravate the injury!

This is the point at which the crisis erupted! There was a sink full of dishes waiting to be washed, also some washing needing to be hung out to dry.

As usual in such situations, I made a quick assessment of the situation, and wondered where, at such short notice, I could get someone in to sort out the mess!

The washing up shouldn't be a problem. Anyone off the street could do that, but the bathroom; all that bodily fluid might require a specialist cleaner.

Numerous phone calls later came the dreaded realisation, my OH might have to disregard the Dr's advice.

I woke my OH up as I thought that a quick ten minute nap was quite sufficient for her and explained the situation.

The bathroom was filled with more blood....mine!

Honestly, some women!
