I too wondered if it was to do with the installation of the boiler, maybe they put it in and weren't qualified to do so...but we're all guessing...whatever it is still very sad so many innocents died.

Something very strange about this. the owner of the shop (who avoided the blast mostly as he was 'out the back'. has had his house searched today and police refused to say if he was one of the men in their thirties arrested (he is 33).

I wonder if it was because of the boiler installation? One is from East Anglia, I think.

Did you see the CCTV footage?
It was horrendous but you can see how the outer walls were left in tact

It looks like the whole shop blew out ( forwards) into the street.
Then the floors/ceiling of the property above fell straight down into the space where the shop was

So sad, may those lost rest in peace.

I was amazed that those two walls were still standing.

The girlfriend of the elder son was also killed, as was the lady working in the shop.

Very sad

Looks like it is thought to have been a gas explosion and the only gas in the building is a boiler in the bathroom of the flat. three people from the flat died (Mother and two teenage sons) a third son age 15 I think, was rescued from the rubble, the father was at work.

It looks like the buildings weren't actually terraced - just close to each other.
The damage to the shop/flats looks like it extends to an extension on the back, too.

I'm sure someone can tell us!

Sharron Report 27 Feb 2018 13:35

Could have done I suppose.

Would it mean the blast had a greater means of escape?

Caroline

Caroline Report 27 Feb 2018 13:32

Very sad and amazing anyone got out alive looking at the damage.

I wonder if it made any difference with the buildings being slightly out of line with each other; I assume not.

Desperately sad but it looks like it was an accident. I certainly hope it was but , looking at the television reports, aren't those buildings solid?

The buildings on either side look almost unscathed.
