Amazon phone scam

This is a cracker. Daft I am not so I played along for a while to find out how they were working this scam.

Phone rang, man informed me he was from Amazon and someone called David Thomas had hacked my account and was attempting to order things.

I was instructed to check my email for the notification of this. I did and, of course, there were no emails other than confirmation of my orders.

He then said I had to check my spam/trash folders. Told him that there was nothing there.

Then he handed the phone to a woman. She wanted to help me see the unauthorised events on my laptop.

I'll miss out the next part but basically using commands logs were displayed that appeared to be out of the norm. The next instruction was to access a web page which purported to be Microsoft help. At this stage I lost interest and hung up.

She rang back 6 times (none of them answered by me, the 7th time hubby answered and told her to push off).

I asked Amazon to phone me and explained the above and I have sent them a pic of the phone number used for investigation.

I have a 2 step verification on Amazon so the fictional Mr. Thomas would have trouble ordering anything.

This is to warn GR peeps because they were very clever in what they attempted to do.
