We'd possibly ignore them jumping the immigration line up...but we can't afford nor do we have a legal obligation to pay a penny for them. :-D

I don't doubt what you said.

It sounds as if a warm Canadian welcome will not await the new arrivals irrespective.

The press love to hate the royal wives. In the light of recent rumours about Prince Andrew, I wonder if the Duchess of York might not have been a lot less of a wicked woman than the newspapers ever painted her. Who knows what she may have endured in her marriage.

I think the half sister and maybe even the father court attention.

I did say I wondered if she was suffering from PND.

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 18 Jan 2020 00:06

I agree Kay.
Why do they keep rolling out her half-sister and father?
Her father and mother divorced when Meghan was 6 - so her much older half siblings only fleetingly saw her when she visited her father - if they happened to be around -yet they apparently know her 'so well'.
Perhaps the media should stop offering them money.

I do wonder if shes not boarder line depressed which many many women suffer after having a baby and dont reconise the signs,,,,,,,?

She had the awful time with her family,,,,,,she had to stay tight lipped about, because of the royals, then a cruel letter from her half brother, and full on engagements while carrying Archie, plus pressure trying not to put a foot wrong under royal rules,,then all the nasty things written about her,

and shes not been in any position to speak out,,,,,,,,maybe it all has got too much and the only way out is to step away and feel sane again.?
then it might not be the case anyway,,,,,,,
,20 months or so is a short time to adjust to a new way of life governed by certain rules.

And don't forget about the Environment and Climate Change

All my bags are packed and I'm ready to go
I'm standin' here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breaking; it's early morning
The taxi's waiting he's blowing his horn
I'm ready I'm so lonesome I could die.
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go
There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
And tell you that they don't mean a thing
Every place I go, I think of you
Every song I sing, I sing for you
When I come back, I'll wear your wedding ring
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go
Now the time is come to leave you
One more time I let me kiss you and
Close your eyes and I'll be on my way
Dream about the days to come when
I won't have to leave alone
About the times that I want have to say
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go
I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go
I'm leaving on a jet plane
Leaving on a jet plane

Ah but all is not as it seems...she didn't actually go to the refuge just their headquarters.
Also another visit for something about social injustice and poverty...ironic we're all hearing about the millions they have and the millions they hope to get :-)

I can't see that happening, Kay. They want the publicity, but on their own terms.

Rose ...........

I don't know where avocado on toast originated, I always thought it was in the US.

I still think using William being presented with an avocado by a child is a very different thing from making avocado on toast regularly.

The first was a very kind thought by a little boy and his mother, and basically, William had to accept it whether he wanted to or not ............. and there was no information on whether he gave it to Kate or whether she ate it or not.

Sylvia, avocado on toast is a very big trend here :-) Before M came over. disgusting way to treat a slice of toast imho ;-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Jan 2020 17:34

It was the avocado comparison that got me in that article that maggie linked!

William was given an avocado by a little boy whose mother was having a hard time with a pregnancy, she had found that eating avocados helped her, and the little boy thought that it might help Kate was having a hard time wit her pregnancy (as usual).

Meanwhile Meghan was promoting, making and eating the very American celebrity mashed avocado on toast.

Two very different things IMHO

JoyLouise,
You say ' I never read anything like this at all', and
'I think I've missed the issue of flowers unless the difference was between posies and headdresses'
'How did the writer know about the planning issue and the Queen's appointments'

Well, there you are - headline supposition, opinion and downright lies.

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 17 Jan 2020 15:23

OMG, nothing else to write about - someone at a loose end for news and wildly exaggerating perceived slights.

I even thought when is this woman going to stop cradling her bump? Kate patted her bump in response to a comment.

Wasn't M invited to spend Christmas at Sandringham before her marriage to H? Unless I am mistaken, Kate had to wait until she married.

The company creation remark was, to me, about quitting royal duties. The writer stretched this a bit.

The 'existing not living' remark is difficult for me to swallow as it would be for many of us who are aware of global problems (which H and M have 'preached about' but seem to have forgotten in the cold light of day). We are all sad when we are unhappy but to exaggerate the sadness, especially in light of global events, is courting comment from the press and public. That there are plenty of people struggling to keep selves and families from going under while at the same time dealing with ill health and family tragedies seems not to have occurred if this remark was anything to judge by.

Perhaps it was due to lack of any other comparisons but the piece about candles, hand wash etc seems strange. I never read anything like this at all. Candles in church OK but surely the hand wash and lotions were for loos if guests needed them. Household staff spraying around church seems to be egging it a bit - not to say an utter waste of staff time. Was this even true?

I think I've missed the issue of flowers unless the difference was between posies and headdresses? I did read that K and M had opposing ideas about Charlotte's dress so perhaps flowers were the issue? (One report stated that M had reduced K to tears by the issue but I find that a little incredulous.)

How did the writer know about the planning issue and the Queen's appointments? I thought all appointments undertaken by members of the royal family were checked against diaries. I can vouch that it happens in other national bodies and HM and Co are not likely to operate in any other way.

Neither couple is in the first flush of youth which would have gone a long way in explaining this 'let it all hang out' behaviour from H and M but that K and W perform their duties with a friendly smile and handshake does credit to them. That's their job and what the public expects - no more, no less.

I, for one, would not blame them as we have a strong line of descent already, but if H and M simply want to chase the dollar or if M is desperately homesick, why don't they simply say so?

I am struggling to remain unbiased, I'm afraid but if my own children had acted in the way H and M have done, I would have been telling them to 'give their heads a shake and look around at all the inequity in this world then tell me how they are only existing.'

It would be good for them if they made the USA their oyster but I won't miss the constant whining from a couple old enough to behave better.
