I know I'm not the only one with an old-style mobile that doesn't do lots of clever things. It's a simple pay-as-you-go and does texts and takes very good photos. I rarely use it, but find it useful to have when I'm travelling, particularly if I'm alone, in case of emergency.

Anyway, if you do have one (Maggie?) then you may not be aware that all 3G phones are being switched off at the beginning of August. I had a text from O2, but it was there for ages before I saw it, so others may be in the same position.

I spent some time yesterday in the 24 C heat in Glasgow getting a new phone. It is 4G otherwise just the same as my soon to be obsolete one, same phone no etc. so a very simple transition. It is charging at the moment, then all I have to do is put a few basic contacts on it and all will be ready to go. I wish all upgrades were that easy. :-)

I hope this has been of some use to other "oldies."

I had an even older one (2G) the free replacement SIM card didn’t work so had to buy a new phone. I’ve now got a payg Nokiia. Don’t like it as much as my old ‘Star Trek’ flip phone.

I have an old Nokia phone that was second hand from my son and I haven't a clue whether it is 2G or 3G. Luckily my son will sort it for me if it has to be changed. I'm useless with technology.

We had to have our landline switched to an internet based line but luckily we didn't have to change the phones themselves.

I hate change :-S
