Does anyone still close their curtains when there is a funeral near to where they live? We still do, I think it is a show of respect for those living and for the deceased. And when I told this to friends they thought I had gone mad.

I do and also stand still and bow my head if a funeral courtage is going by. It shows respect in my eyes.

I didn’t know it was a ‘thing’.

When it was a funeral of someone in the road we live in we all stood and bowed our head because as you say it is a mark of respect.
When it was the funeral of my Aunt in Australia and I couldn't go to it my cousins carried some flowers on my behalf so I felt like I was there.

I have always done it since I was a child as my relations always did.

my family never did and neither do I but if a funeral passes near me I do stand in respect.

I don't do it, but only because my house stands alone, no passing people or traffic.

However, had I lived in a street where a funeral was to take place I would have pulled the curtains just like my mam used to do.

Yes, when a funeral procession goes by, I bow my hand and do the sign
of the cross.


In 2003 at Easter time, I had just come out of church after the service
on Good Friday.

I popped into Sainsburys. At the service till,
the young gentleman who is a muslim checked my goods out and then said:

"I wish you and your family, at your sacred time, peace." <3
I remember the warmth in his eyes.

It was a gesture of genuine courtesy and respect.

"Thank you very much" I responded. "Peace always be with you". <3
