Water bills

Isn’t it unfair on water meter uses to bring in surge pricing for water..
Aren’t they the very ones who keep an eye on their usage rather than those non metered who can use what they want without a care.

Yes and my monthly bill has gone up 50%

I was surprised to see that we pay almost £28 a year more to one firm for waste water to be disposed of, than we pay to another firm for the supply of clean water.

The more expensive company are
"excited that we've been given the go ahead for our biggest ever investment programme"

Let's see how they deliver.

Several beaches in Kent have lost their blue flag rating.
I wonder if the 'investment' will alter that.

I thought it was usually the same company. We got our waste water part of the bill reduced as our guttering runs into soakaways rather than the drains.

Affinity provide our clean supply, Southern Water dispose of it.

I'm with Southern Water for both fresh water and waste water.
The standing charge for wastewater in 2024 was £24.96 more than the standing charge for water.

I've got a meter, so know how much water I use.
What I want now is a 'waste' meter - to show how much wastewater is going into the sewers etc!

I (especially at this time of year) collect the water that comes out before the hot water, and water the garden with it - so that's a few gallons of 'waste' water, daily, they're not dealing with!

When the aisle of Wight went totally metered they found that not enough water was going down the drains as everyone was saving as much as they could for their gardens.

I’ve got good old Thames :-|. Apparently their planned surge pricing will come in after one has done 13 loads of laundry in a day ;-)

I agree Nameslessone. There's no incentive for the non-metered to even try to save water. I've been emptying my hot waterbottle I've been cooling in the fridge for these hot nights on the garden in the morning. Anyone seeing me must think I've lost the plot! It annoys me how much water it takes before the shower gets warm. Maybe I could collect at least a bucketful each time.

Annx, didn’t they recently tell us not to wait - meaning a cold shower :-P
Just like so many other things we are assumed to have/do, we are expected to have immediate hot water

Looks like Thames are putting out a hosepipe ban but only for the ‘shires :-| :-| :-P :-P

OMG Namelessone! I don't fancy that, although I have done it a few times when the shower has stopped working! They were very quick showers saving even more water though.

Makes me cross that they actually get the product for free out of the sky and than get most of it back anyway!
Yes, I'm just being cynical as of course I do understand that it has to be treated, transported etc but even so....?

If only it was that easy.
