:-)

I did Ann.
I was worried about being late, but was there before my appointment time.

The only trouble was, it was a really hot day. I got out of the car, where daughter could drop me and hurried to get to the hospital department.
I didn't even have time to sit down, before an efficient nurse called me to have my blood pressure taken.
It was a bit high, she thought. :-0

But, did you get to your appointment Gwyn?

I have a hospital appointment for 22 JANUARY 2026. I guess it is too early to start to plan that one yet.

I’ve seen the shapes on the old ‘holiday route’ main A road. But don’t think we get them elsewhere.

I have seen diversion signs with two shapes - goodness knows what you do with those.

I’ve never noticed that you can get both a plain diversion sign and then the option of following one with a shape.

I shall look at them more closely. The best ones are the arrows pointing in the wrong direction ;-). I think someone had peeled off the temporary cover :-D

It's a route site. We have numerous road works in the area.

So you either follow the sign that just says Diversion or you follow the sign that has Diversion, then underneath has a solid black circle.

Until you come across the 2 together, I bet most people would not have noted the black blob earlier in their journey.
It was only when I saw a later sign with black blob, that I realised that it was later taking 'a country route' and the plain Diversion sign was probably sending everyone else in never-ending circles around yet another road closure on another edge of the town.

There are several Warning signs about coming road closures locally, so we have yet to see if the works over-lap and we need more signs with additional symbols :-0

Neither do I. What's a solid black circle mean, Gwyn?

Round here a detour can mean anything from a few miles to 70 or more! :-(

I don’t understand those markings. They don’t have them on our local roads.

Ah now, diversion signs here have to be read, but you also have to note if there is an added symbol on the sign.

We came to a staggered cross roads yesterday and could follow the diversion sign pointing straight ahead or the diversion showing you had to take a sharp right. :-S

It is only when you get close enough not to be able to change lanes, that you see that the one straight ahead also shows a solid black circle, so travelling in our local area is chaotic at the moment, as holidaymakers try to figure out where they should be :-|

We don’t know how she did it but an elderly friend got so confused following diversion signs that she ended up miles down the nearby motorway.
If she had realised what she was doing she had several options before she got there.

All this was in an area she knew.

:-0 :-|

.... and there was me thinking this area had the monopoly on plastic barricades, traffic cones and temporary traffic lights ;-)

I had an outpatient appointment last week, but elder daughter warned us that the buses had been re-routed while 'improvement' work is in progress, so they would not be going anywhere near the hospital.
Younger daughter said she would take me in her car, so we set off only to find that without warning, the road from here to the A road was suddenly blocked and closed.
Everything therefore had to head a couple of miles west, then a mile south before picking up another access to the main road.
We had wanted to go east :-0 :-0
Some indication, before everything headed down the long country road would have been helpful :-|

Well, actually at the end of Wednesday. Two lots of work being carried out in different parts of the road. One utility one council. Neither have come back today to finish the jobs - the council ( roads) one only started about 5 last night..

Neither job is going to meet up so that is not the problem

I don’t think the acronym poew works ;-)
