Purchasing a house and relocating it is popular in Oz. During my career with the Dardanup Shire Council (1990-2006) I must have inspected over twenty such houses.

It was a Council Policy that the house had to be inspected at the originating area to see what standards it met e.g. all asbestos had to be removed. I couldn't advise on structural integrity as I didn't have any engineering qualifications, so that had to be a separate report.

All the properties were the older weatherboard type as modern brick built houses are impossible to remove unless taken down brick by brick

I suppose, in my 'youth' we moved our 'house'.

Dad was in the Fleet Air Arm. Mum didn't want to live in married quarters, so we had a caravan, which moved around when we did!

I remember seeing on the south east news some years ago, a report about Belle Tout lighthouse being moved on rollers back from the cliff edge.

We walked to Yaringa for afternoon tea which was a treat.

I’ve often wished I could move my current house to the seaside ;-) ;-)

I know that the moving church has been mentioned on the boards but a good pal actually moved her house.

Many years ago, she and her other half bought about 15 acres of land near Somerville (Oz) not far from Yaringa(h). Yacht Harbour.They then bought a long weatherboard house which was situated in Mount Eliza and had it shipped by road in two parts to their Somerville place. I have stayed in it, it is comfortable and wherever it was joined up again is not at all visible.

You can see the house, complete with its verandah, through the trees if you look online - and their makeshift nameboard on the very short strip of fencing they’ve erected.

Such happy times we had with them. <3
