We have a chemical factory near us (it used to be ICI) and they sound a toxic alert warning every Tuesday at 10am and then the all clear just afterwards. Everyone is so used to it that no one takes any notice.

Not sure what we would do if there actually was a toxic release at 10am on a Tuesday or any other day for that matter - we usually ignore it. You are supposed to stay indoors and close windows :-S

I'm fairly sure that I remember the air raid sounding to alert firemen to rush to the fire station, when I was young, in the days before pagers.

A nearby town has a similar-sounding alarm at a set time on a weekly basis. It's a flood warning.

I remember the air raid siren being tested from time to time. Once I had left home I don’t think I heard it again. Got the lifeboat rockets instead.

My mobile obviously isn't compatible :-S

I remember when I was still living at parents house, left at 18, the air raid siren went off - freaked my mother out LOL. Apparently it used to be tested now and then.

I don’t understand why we are so far behind the times in the UK. Other countries have

had alerts for a long time and we only caught up in 2023. Better late than never I

suppose ;-)

Normally I would turn off my phone but wanted to hear the nose it made. Exactly the same noise as last Wednesday. Frightened the life out me then as it happened twice whilst I was driving. Thought something was wrong with the car until it went again at home.
