Youths in masks, police unable to control them because of the numbers. ferral youths totally out of control.
Isn't it time these huge fireworks wer completely banned That is not allowed to be sold at all. and at the price they are, how an these youngsters afford them?

Is this what our men and women died for in the two wars, is this a better Britain?

I totally agree with you AnnG, they should be banned ....I'm sure there will be further such disturbances in the coming days too.:-|

When I was in Tesco they were selling fireworks at the Customer Services.....as I walked by I saw one of the options it said two for £185.....I don't know how anyone can justify paying that kind of money:-0 :-0

Gawd, Belle, £ 185. It's a wonder the oldies didn't keel over when they spotted that price!

Feral youths - remember Borstals now called Youth Offenders Institutions. It is difficult to think of any other way of punishment which is a shame because some 'more innocent' offenders end up learning from hardened offenders when they're locked up in the YOIs.

I believe fireworks are weapons when used wrongly - but the offenders have to be caught!

must have lots of money where i live, nothing but loud bangs and very little animation in the sky
my cats are really scared and they certainly make me jump
it only used to be firework night now it seems to be for anything

I have not checked so I am not sure whether fireworks have to be kept in cabinets by shopkeepers who sell them.

If they aren't, though, I can see how easy it would be for the light-fingered to steal them.

I agree Maddie, when I was young fireworks for Guy Fawkes Night were only let off on the 5th and that was it :-)

Fireworks have been going off around here since 17 Oct with Diwali being on the 20th:-0. I'm expecting them to go off till at least Monday with Saturday being another exceptional bad night :-(

It is difficult to understand the mentality of these people actually throwing lit fireworks at the police and other emergency workers. You wonder where and how they learn the lack of thought and compassion for others, I wonder if they are happy being so aggressive. I wonder what their family life is like. I can see that the hatred (for that is what it is) of the police can be learned fromolder family members. What a sad upbringing they have.

JoyL Yes I remember Borstals. When in our early 30s Husband and I belonged to Probabtion office volunteers. One of husbands 'jobs' was to visit a Borstal in the South East somewhere (we lived in Essex at the time). He used to come home feeling quite depressed he said it was an awful place.

No fireworks when Nov 5th fell on a Sunday in my young days.
I don't know if it was general or just catlicks.
The boys had bangers and jumping jacks, I hated them.

Boys have always thrown fireworks at other people :-|

AnninGlos Report 6 Nov 2025 15:46

Yes they have Island but the newer firework are very big and really dangerous, nothing like the jumping jacks that would go down your welly boots.

Island

Island Report 6 Nov 2025 16:36

A jumping jack in your wellie boots sounds like a trip to the burns unit :-0

Island - we Scousers aren’t all bad!

Thank you Allan. If my memory serves me right you were a Lancs lad?

Now Brummies, however …. Oooh, mustn't go there as one of my sisters-in-law is from Birmingham.

Neither are the youth of today Joy :-D
My grandma scorned the youth of my day "what they need is a damn good war" :-0 :-|
I think it goes with the territory ;-)
The press also has always been lazy and gone for shock headlines, now videos of course. :-(

Joy, scousers all bad? Just goes to show, the power of manipulation aka the press.

Allan

Allan Report 7 Nov 2025 21:25

JoyLouise, yes brought up in Manchester :-)

Although my birth certificate gives my place of birth as Prestbury, Cheshire :-D

Just one of those quirks due to continuing effects of WW2 at the time
