when we bought this house it was part double glazed and we have added each window as we could afford it. One of our biggest windows which is in teh kitchen has just failed. We had a 10 year guarantee and would you believe that the guarantee runs out in about 3 weeks!!!! We are now trying to rush through the procedure of claiming before it is to late |

I assume the unit is either letting in wate,or has condensation between the skins. Keep a note of the day you reported the failiure as this is the proof that it failed within the stipulated ten years, The firm that fitted the window must honour the agreement wether it be two years ,or even two weeks,so don't worry about it. Any hassle ,report them to the glass and glazing federation, who will take up the matter on your behalf.fred. |

Hi LLC Has the window frame failed or the double glazed unit? My OH has been in the double glazing trade for over 20 years and it common practice to offer a 10 year guarantee on the frame, but only 5 years on the glass |

In past 15 months we have had 5 windows which have broken down after 15 years (the sealed glass units) - told it is the norm after 10 years - which is why guarantees are for 10 years only. Make sure you put your claim in writing to the company concerned. |

There is water in the middle of the pains. There is some sort of insurance for it. THe firm that fitted it went into liquidation I think but we have contacted the firm who took them over. The insurance firm wants everything in writing. Even though we have all the relevant reference numbers and info that they need its not good enough over the phone as it is our first claim with them... We had to scan everything and print it all out so we could send them the details and of course there is a postal strike today so that will delay things even more now. Good job we kept all the paperwork So if 10 years is the norm I better start saving towards my other ones as I have been here 19 years and not had any trouble with the big one on the front yet..... |

We've been lucky with ours, there is occasional misting in one that is about 15 years old. Some of the others are 30 years old and still OK ('They don't make them like that nowdays') |
