A relative of my dog walking friend has just bought a pedigree King Charles Spaniel. They have been told by the breeder that if they wish to breed from this dog, they have to pay them £500 first. Has anyone heard of this before? Anne |

As far as I am aware Joy, they were only given this information AFTER they had bought the puppy! Anne |

If the dog in question is female, you normally have to pay the owner of the stud dog money upfront and it can be up to 400 pounds. |

The £500 isn't a stud fee. It's just the money they want because the are the breeder of the puppy. Anne |

As far as I am aware this fact didn't come to light until after the sale. When they bought the puppy they also were given the Kennel Club Reg Papers. If there is an endorcement on the Reg papers what exactly does these mean? Can the breeders act on anything is there was nothing in writing? Anne |

If the dog is registered as a pedigree with the kennel club then you can put an endorsment to the registration. Quite a lot of people state the animal can't be used for breeding and the Kennel Club would have to be contacted to get it lifted by the breeder. It would have to be on the pedigree papers when they were handed over and pointed out by the seller in advance. Daphne |

I've never heard of anything like this before. I thought once you paid your money, had the KC papers, then it was your responsibility to breed the dog with a reputable stud dog. Anne |
