We're getting a three year old Labrador from the 'Labrador Rescue Society' on Friday. I got a call today from the representative telling me all about him. He sounds Gorgeous and we are really looking forward to giving him a loving home. The only trouble is,is that we dont like his name! Hubby thinks we should change it, I'm not so sure. The name is........Hagrid! |

Oh what a shame poor dog lol. Was going to suggest you rename it something that sounds the same, might not be easy. Marion |

trouble is he will find it traumatic enough being rehomed without trying to cope with a new name. |

If it's a Lab: How about 'Hungry' (Although one of our is actually fussy about food ! ) |

He is black and has been described as being a very tall long legged boy. When she told me his name, it didn't mean anything to me! Myself and hubby had never heared of it. When my 17 year old daughter came home from school she told us who 'Hagrid' is/was!!.... There is a black labrador up the road called 'Vador' (as in Darth) If we do change it then it would have to be a name begining with 'H' at least...maybe Harry..Hungry...err no! |

Greeting’s Again…….Bella. A tip from my local R.S.P.C.A. When I had a dog from them Is to use the same amount of Syllables within the name as the old one That way he will get to recognize it quicker. I hope you have as many years of Loyalty and Love As I did with mine ( 15 years ) MIKE. xx |

Thanks for all your suggestions. Mike, using the same amount of syllables makes sense, I'll bear that in mind. 15 years for a Labrador is quite unusual...a very long life. My Labrador/Staff had to be put to sleep last October due to cancerous lumps at the age of 12. |

Not dogs I know! But when we got a rescue cat, she had been called Bridie at the centre, we renamed her Tilly and she soon accepted it - along with the food that came with the name!! Although we had been told she was spayed, Tilly managed to have 4 kittens, that we gave 'jokey' names to - Love-love, Grinch(boy he was ugly!!), Jelly and GG. We decided to keep the kittens and re-named 3 of them Mr Miu, George and Betty. they answer to the new names, because we always use them to call them in for the greatest magnet of all - food!!! What I'm saying is - call him what you like - but renforce it with food :o) I also think it would be a good thing to totally change his name - to negate any hardship/memories he has from the past - new life, new name. maggie |

My boy arrived from the pound at about two years of age, so would have been called something prior to me getting him, what that was no idea as he was picked up as a wandering nuisance (sp??) by the dog ranger and for the first week he was only referred to as boy then he was given his proper name of George, which it did not take him long to get used to (food is always a good incentive) - Michelle |
