A few weeks ago I had an abscess under one of my bottom front teeth and I kept taking painkillers and that hardly helped until the dentist gave me antibiotics. They worked a treat. I kept on brushing my teeth and rinsing water over the sore part. Ben |

It sounds like your wisdom tooth is coming through. Have you got any Corsodyl mouthwash or gel. That is the recommended stuff for 'pericoronitis'. If you haven't any, then hot salt water mouthwashes will help. Joanne xx |

I remember my wisdoms coming through, it felt like jelly for a time until the tooth erupted......I heard somewhere if you gargle with salt water.....but was that for sore throats....anyway hope the nagging pain goes soon Irishgirl.... |

Biting on a chilled teething ring really does help. |

Can I just ask a little more detail. You say that the gum feels swollen - is there a swollen flap of gum partly over the back of the tooth? If so it is definately 'pericoronitis', and you need an anti-bacterial mouthwash to help reduce the gum. It happens because bits of food are able to get under the flap and then cause infection. The mouthwashes I mentioned earlier will help, and may even clear up the problem for now. If it doesn't go away, then you will need some anti-biotics. Joanne x |
