Know what you mean--Our discharge letters are signed by nurses but written by doctors--that's why we check'em! I'm not sure what that procedure is Carol

CATHKIN Report 12 Apr 2007 22:08

The discharge letter was signed by a nurse my daughter had never even seen --it said arthroplasty with 30 stitches/clips to be removed in 10 days when she had an arthroscopy with 2 stitches. As a nurse it makes me so angry and I know mistakes are made but she`s going in for major surgery soon -a GANZ procedure and is worried, Ros

think you are--we have a PALS (patient liason service) see if your hospital has one and up your complaint onto a proper form--we always check our discharge letters before we print them--especially if we get a few discharges and the docs are new to it, we often get right side instead of left etc but us eagle eyed nurses usually spot it and put it right. Often the letters are written by very busy and weary docs in the middle of the night. no excuse I know but that is why we double check em Carol

When Rona was in having her arthroscopy there were a few problems --most worrying was the discharge letter said she`d had a hip replacement --it was a camera in her hip -an arthroscopy. I wrote to the hospital and the policy is to reply in 20 days --it`s now 25 . I phoned two weeks tomorrow as we were seeing the surgeon on the 4th and the lady in Complaints Dept said it was drafted --just waiting for signature. Still not received it and phoned today --she said a letter`s been sent out to say they are late with answer cos the Consultants ? -it was only one --were on holiday. Think I`m getting the runaround and a bit p'''''' o''with them. Rant over !!! Ros
