Cancelled the tree surgon as I was worried that my birds maybe nesting (moved here October with a neglected overgrown garden). We decided to pull down the shed on saturday but found a nest in there theis evening, Held a mirror over it to check for eggs but it is empty. |

This is definitely the nesting season. Does it look like an old nest from last year or has 'Momma' not laid yet?. Some birds will make more than one nest too. |

I cant tell if its old or new, we have people coming in to remove the shed so we can start building but I have told hubby that the shed has to stay...and no building until i know for sure...... I have all sorts of birds here...my daughter says i'm obsessed with them (is giving them all names obsessive ????) Jx |

Lol Jan, I don,t think that,s at all obsessive. Just watch the nest for a while and see if there,s any activity. If there are no eggs in it, I wouldn,t worry too much as they will just build another one. |

Lol Our blackbirds are Mr & Mrs Blackbird, Mr & Mrs Tit etc Lol When the babies have gone we often wonder if its still the same Mr & Mrs Blackbird. Oh we also have a mouse inside the house, hes been here since day and one and his names Mickey, He lives on his own, OH says if he gets a partner he has to go. |

I'm glad you thought again - you are obviously sensitive to the birds. I think it is actually an offence to damage/remove nests and eggs. A few years back we had new neighbours who bought a house with an established garden. They moved in May, and within a week they had cut down every tree and shrub on our boundary with them (a lot of trees and shrubs). The birds were distraught. My daughter and I just stood and cried. When I went round and told them (politely) how we felt they just ignored us. We asked them to put a couple of trees back - it took them 5 years. |

Last year we had a tree taken down..never gave it a thought :(( I went away for a couple of hours, came back, went into the house, leaving them to get on with it. They then came to the door to say they had found a nest, it was a pidgeon. They put it at the bottom of the garden in hope that Mum and Dad would come back. I phoned the RSPCA and they said just to leave it and hope for the best. Well.....I felt terrible, watching this poor bird sitting on the lampost, which was right beside the tree, for about three day's. Marion |
