A driver was stopped, reported and fined+points for eating a cheese sandwich....allegedly not being in proper control of his car...... OK, but When I was taught to drive, to indicate an impending turn, or slowing down,it was neccesary to wind down the window wave your right arm about, rewind the window up and change gear and execute a manouvre...... by todays reckoning would THAT have been deemed to be in proper control? Yeah!! Scarlett!! remember dem as well...LOL And how you had to bang on the door pillar when they had stuck!!! and the windscreen wipers that stopped working when you tried to drive uphill, and the little levers inside the windscreen, that you had to turn help them work....... ps I was lucky, lived in the era when we HAD windscreens...no heaters, heated rear window, or radios...... You had to do hand signals when taking your test. First time I took mine it was peeing down torrential rain so I told the examiner 'if you think I'm putting my arm out of the window in this your joking', wonder why he failed me! Pat |

Hows' about that then? one law for us and another for him!!! hypocrite!!!! A senior police officer has been caught using a mobile phone while driving, a week after tough new laws were introduced. Strathclyde Police Chief Superintendent Kenny Scott, 50, was stopped by officers from his own force as he drove on the M74, a police spokesman said. He was fined £60 and will have three points put on his licence in line with new legislation. Fines have been doubled from £30 and those caught using hand-held mobiles now have points put on their licence for the first time. A police spokesman said: 'We can confirm that a 50-year-old man was given a fixed penalty following an alleged road traffic offence on the M74 on Wednesday, March 7.' The Scottish Sun reported that Mr Scott was stopped while off duty and driving a private car. Roger Vincent, spokesman for the Royal Society For the Prevention of Accidents, told the newspaper that drivers are four times more likely to crash while using a mobile. He added: 'It is disappointing that somebody in his position has broken this law. 'He would have been well aware of how dangerous it is to use a mobile phone whilst driving. 'As well as putting his own life at risk he also jeopardised the lives of other road users.' Bob |

I took my theory test two years ago and you still have to know those hand signals. I wouldn't have said that was any different to eating a cheese sandwich.! |

I'm hoping to become rich by designing four feeders from driver's mirror, One for ciggies, one for drinks, one for foodstuffs and another for speaking into mobile phone. I think the next step in legislation is being forbidden to smoke while driving. Further steps will be 'Singing Along to the Radio' followed by 'Indulging in conversation With Passengers'. A x |

There is nothing to say you cannot chat on your mobile whilst riding your bicycle!! One chap nearly ended up under my car today, when he wobbled off of the pavement in front of me. |

Got to keep on top of cycling laws though Carol. I have a colleague who was done for freewheeling downhill in Bristol and exceeding the speed limit. The court case was brought against him for Furious Cycling. I bet this could be expanded to invoke mobile phones. |
