The other day I decided to take a look at a branch of my tree that I knew very little about. They’ve been a bit of a pain to research as it seems my great Grandmother had changed her first name. But I did know the first names of her nieces and nephews……or thought I did! So, having nothing better to do (other than housework!) I went through this site and messaged everyone who had those names in their trees between 1901 and 1920……a total of 53 of them! It took me virtually all afternoon. About half of the people I messaged have replied, and even better than that, I’ve got a connection! Andy is the gentleman’s name, and one of those nieces was his Grandmother. Three of the four children were actually registered with different names to ones I had…….the names I had were nicknames. And Andy was able to confirm that my great Grandmother did change her name. So, the moral of this story is, b*gger the housework…….errrrrr I mean don’t leave any stone unturned! lol I’m off to message Andy now with the offer of photos and some of my Grandma’s memories of his family. Hiya Maz! Grandma was from Hertfordshire and her Mum's family were from Middlesex. I suppose that makes me a quarter poncey southerner then! LOL ;-))))))

Oi, Oi not so much of the poncey. They don't call me granite chops for nothing, lol. Mind you when I found out how much Scottish and Irish was in my blood I was devastated. Wanted to be a true Londoner which I thought I was... but not the case. Fun though innit. Jean x.

Afternoon Jean! It is fun innit? Us kids always used to take the mickey out of Grandma's accent......behind her back of course! LOL There may be a trace of the Irish in me too but I fear it may be so far back that I will never find out. Also a rumour of Russian ancestry way back too.......which is now the excuse I give for my predilection for vodka! pmsl
