I wanted to compile a mini -album as a present for a relative's 60th birthday containing photos from when he was tiny etc. As you can imagine lots of the photos are those tiny ones - you know 1.75 x 2.50 inches and 2.75 x 2.75 inches - so tiny you need a magnifying glass to identify people !! I want to increase the size by 75-100% but nowhere can I find any computer software that will allow me to do this. I have phoned a local Colab who can increase the photos by any % I like but at £4.25 per photo. This would make the cost of the album astonomical and is beyond my reach. I also tried Jessops who could only offer 6 x 4 which is far too big. Please please, does anyone use a photo software programme which allows you to increase the size of a photo by PERCENT ?? I would be grateful for this info if you have it.

I don't know about any computer programmes where you can do this yourself, but I did something similar recently myself. I went to a local independent photographers who copies some old 'photos for me and enlarged others. The costs were between £1 and £4 per photo, depending on size. Do you have a local photographers you could try? AL

Hi Animal Lover - were they just photographs because I don't have the negatives. I have scanned them into my computer but all the programmes seem to have pre-set sizes - none of which are what I want. I want the photos to end up about 4 x 4 in and 4 x about 2.5 inches.

I'm an idiot on the computer too Dawnie - I have the photos on the computer and have tried resizing to what I want but up to now no success. Also, most photo software only allowes you to print multiple copies on a page provided they are all the same size. These - if increased by 75-100% are varying sizes so can only print one per page which is a right pain. I have a terrible feeling I am going to have to give up on this idea. If I had a big photo and wanted to reduce, no problem but me being awkward want it the opposite way and it seems to be a no-no everywhere I look. And yes, I am hoping to pop in for just a short while.

I use Irfanview which can be downloaded for free. Not tried it out on images that I have scanned onto computer but do use it for all census images etc which I have downloaded. Maureen

Hi Margaret I've just done the same thing myself, in exactly the way that Dawn said. I bought one of those frames in which you can put lots of photos, all different sizes. Open up a new Word document, then click on 'Insert' and 'Picture from....' and choose the place to which you've saved your scanned pics. You can then get several on one page, and if you've got your document set to 100%, you can even hold a ruler up to your screen to check that they're the size you want! Print off on good quality photo paper and you'll never know the difference between the originals and the new copies. Good luck! Mandy :)
