JUST COULDNT ADD POST LAST NIGHT ,as mum was so poorly and I was so tired /down) I visited yesterday and poor old mum was so poorly/ feeling sick, would take a few sips of water and could,nt keep it down. She was so down her grandaughter /great granddaughter visited and she TOLD them to go ,after only 5 mins. I was up at 5am this morning couldnt sleep and realized , it was just her feeling poorly but 8 out of 10 in her bay were feeling the same, Im sure it was a virus, I was going in today but could stay away , I was ready for action if mum was still ill, but today she was really on a upper as was every one else in her bay, it seems it was a 36hr bug.But of course no one would admit this (the norm) But she is on her way up so I m so pleased she is on the mend . A old friend a retired nurse was with me yesterday and she gave me a talking to today. Do NOT help out with other patients , as you are passing on germs, even though its hard ,but you must leave it up to the staff to attended to other patients. If I was grey before I am now ! We are now into the bit , of returning home , stupid me thought it was straight forward , I didnt know you have to pay to get mum transported home/ am I stupid or that old that I thought the NHS was free? Sorry but yet again Im moaning, OK you all can call me MRS MELDREW |

Frankie, glad she's on an up today. Your friend is quite right, leave it to the staff to help other patients. Its the best way. I was told that after a day or two, hip and knee replacement patients get a bit weepy....If mum gets like that, its not depression, its a kind of relief. She has been through a lot, and she may well be tired most of the time to begin with. Its the body's way of coping. As long as she does the exercises she is given, she will go from strength to strength. |

Hi Frankie, you've got to pay to get mum transported home? I thought transport ambulances were free. Did you see the news today, nurses are being asked to work one day for free. I think its outrageous whatever next. I think the next thing will be paying for food whilst in hospital. Take care. Sue |

Paying for food? Don't we already do that? To day was the first day since Mon that she has attempted to eat, the amount of wasted food is really bad . I couldn't understand Why there was flys in the ward , until I walked past a trolley laden with waste food in the corridor of /ward ,and this is a hospital that is now on the up? I just cant imagine what the strain is like for some families ,that are already on the bread line . It is so expensive to have a loved one in hospital, the parking/ transport,. How many of us have good enough bed attire /for public scrutiny to last over a period of days. Then there's the little extras to try and tempt them into eating / drinking. Lets just thank our lucky stars we can cope with out getting into debt! My heart goes out to them |

Frankie,] I'm so glad your mum's feeling better again. Could be the after effects of the anaesthetic. I was under once for all of 10 minutes. I was bouncing around the first 2 days. Went back to work on the 3rd day. By the fifth day, I just couldn't stay awake!! I spent my days sleeping for an hour and being up for an hour - quite interesting, I couldn't be bothered fighting it!! I was back at work after another 2 weeks. Paying for transport must be an area thing. My BIL gets free transport to hospital, courtesy of the wonderful volunteer drivers. The other day he went in, and my sister was expecting them to keep him in, So she bought him a TV card, tissues etc, went home and had a couple of glasses of wine. After 7 hours, the hospital phoned - could she pick him up? Umm no says sis, I have been drinking and have to meet 20 Dof E kids in 10 minutes. Ths hospital sent BIL home in a taxi - which they paid for!!! maggie |

Frankie, I am glad your mum is feeling a little better, bless her, but what a worry for you and your family, there are always pressures of different kinds when a relative is in hospital. I hope your mum will continue to improve and you can relax a little. I dread the thought of ever ending up in hospital again, especially as I grow older and might be less able to speak up for myself.
