Didn't realise someone had posted Rainbow Bridge on the other thread but will leave link there. Huia, I have had to have my three cats and my mum's cat put to sleep as well as my dog and it is a dreadful thing to have to do, but you owe it to them where possible to be with them to the end. I am just sad I couldn't say goodbye to Daisy but I know the vet was with her, she is very good with animals at those times especially. I miss them all so much, and can't wait to get another cat or two, when I move back to my home. It has been nearly nine years since I lost Daisy and my last cat went just before her.

All my sympathies. Last May we felt our 15yr old dog and cat were not enjoying life any more so we took them to the vet who put them out of their misery. They came to us together as pup/kitten, they were good friends, they left us together and are buried together. We have happy memories of dog chasing cat down the path, then the thundering of hooves as cat chased dog back up. And other memories. You will survive the misery. In time. Huia.

I know how your feeling Carol. I still have some fur of my Bramble in a special pot on the dressing table. He was a springer spaniel. My family have instructions to put that fur in my own coffin when my time comes. Bramble was my soul mate. I lost him 6 years ago and still think of him everyday. You never forget but you do learn to live with the memories. Gerri xx Time is a great healer...

Bryan, I think Labradors are prone to Mammary cancer, yours was a Lab I think, did she have the same as Daisy? They took it all away, and she was fine for the first day and then stopped eating, I took her back to the vet and they put her on a drip, but later rang me and said it would be kinder to put her to sleep. I had no time to go and say goodbye. I wished afterwards I hadn't put her through the op, poor old girl.

similar to liz, i noticed a lump on my beloved shebs, got a call at 9.30pm, from the vet surgeon to say she had kanine cancer, and it would be kinder to let her sleep on, so i agreed.... but i still shed a tear for my best friend. bryan.

I only had a few days to realise my Daisy dog might leave us. We noticed the lump and she had a big op to remove the cancer, but only lived a few more days, before everything became too much for her and we lost her, she was only 12 and such a special friend. Will be thinking of you with your poor old dog. Liz

Caz, what can I say, I promised myself when it happened to me last year that I would never go through that again. I know love how you and G are feeling and my thoughts are with you both at this time. I know it's difficult, but you must try and remember the good times and I promise you that time is a good healer. but having said that you'll never forget. My love and prayers are with you both tonight. God Bless Jeff xx

I so understand yes. Ive already got myself in a state for me putting Pepsi in a cattery for the first time ever when i go to Vancouver, im terrified of leaving her for 16 days as she is my baby. When i lost my dog Asty, i vowed i would never put myself through the pain again, but i adore animals, god bless Zac and all of you xxxx

I know what you mean Caz and I understand how painful it is. I lost my lady fairly recently.Everyone says their partners or best friends are their soul mates but for me it was my old collie. I miss her so much but now a little while on I take comfort in the knowledge that I gave her freedom from her pain. It was an act of pure love and also pure torture. I am thinking of you honey xx
