Wow good job I checked back on this thread lol Liz, and all people from Norwich, I do apologise, I usually say I'm going in the city, don't know why I called it a town...I DO know better lol Dee..I hope so too. I feel really lucky with my maternal family, there are lots of books and papers for me to get clues from. Sadly there is nothing on my Dads side, all photos and papers were destroyed in a house fire, so I'm working from a blank canvas so to speak. so....anyone else been left clues by their ancestors? |

The Family Bible was left to me but my yonger brother is looking after it for me at the mo, not that much in it, just one generation but nice to have - it is from my maternal grandmother. My cousin I visited in summer has the paternal Family Bible and lots of info, but I did speak to a cousin of my dad's who gave me lots of information and anecdotes so very pleased to hear that. BTW, Teresa, slapped wrist for you, Norwich is a city and we who were born and bred here get very hoity if others call it a town!! lol |

Nanna kept a note book of birthdays (no surnames) Great Gran kept a notebook of birthdays, marriages and full names of her children, Aunts and uncles - My nan added my parents and my generations to it. She also drew a tree of her grandparents down to her. Nanna had a family bible in the house but I don't know who's family it's from (not mine that i can tell) |

My Gt grandfather (maternal) had a huge bible which I now have. On a blank page he drew lines and filled in all the dates and places of birth of his children. His son, my grandfather then continued it and filled in the dates and places of death, and then added the dates and places of birth of his children. My Mother then (she was the youngest and last to die) filled in the dates of death of all her siblings. Ann Glos |

Its a real shame when things get destroyed. There were also diaries from WW1 in the trenches which he wrote. When he died my Gran burnt them all on the bonfire. |

I'm showing off now lol.... My Grandfather loved family history, and about 90 years ago he wrote what he knew in an exercise book, at the very desk I'm sitting at now! After he died, some 40 years ago, it was passed to his cousin Eric. Erics grandaughter now has it, and I recently found out she lives very near me in the same town. I will be going to her office on Monday to pick up the book! I can't wait to get my hands on it, I have quite a few questions! I'm told there are a couple of anomalies in it, but with what I have managed to research myself, I should get a pretty clear picture. |

Bel, we knew the exercise book existed, but thought it was lost forever. We only found out recently that it was still about! |

It says This board is for general discussion on genealogy as well as every day topics. at the top so I'll let you off :-) No family bibles in our house but someone did a family tree back in 1945 - some of it was quite accurate - some was funny :- Adele - married a farmer!!!! How he knew I don't know as it was in the 1800's!!! The tree does include THE Cadburys - no chocolate comes to this part of the tree though :-( |
