One morning there were 6 or 7 magpies sat in our hazel tree making the most noisy racket. I thought it was a cat warning but no cat in sight. They kept it up for about 20 minutes until 'it' moved and I saw the sparrowhawk on a lower branch of the same tree. The magpies stayed there until the hawk had flown away. These are the same magpies who 'work' the hedges, one bird distracting the nesting birds and the other plundering the nest. So maybe they were safeguarding their future food supply for their babies. I know they are supposed to be bad luck and can be very naughty but they are so chatty Remember one one day sat on a gate post I must have looked a right twirp stood talking to it. Oh and when we lived at my mums for a while there used to be one came and knocked on the kids bedroom window they thought he was wonderful. Germaine x |

I don't know Diana but poor little magpie all on his own hope you saluted him. Germaine x Just found this Pairs mate for life. But if a mate is lost, it’s often quickly replaced or territory boundaries are changed. So he/she should be OK |

Every morning I see 2 magpies on a certain spot of road.... but this morning there was only 1.... its mate was in the road and had been run over and killed!! ;o( What happens now does Magpie find a new mate or is it destined to spend the rest of its like alone? |
