Maggie Beamish Open Air Museum in Co.Durham is marvellous,a true record of life in a bygone age.well worth a visit. There's original buildings (taken down brick by brick) and rebuilt.........Shops(Cooperative ) a Bank, dentist and doctor's,working pub etc. Also old pit, farm and school next to old Chapel.cottages too, there's something added every year. I've been loads of times and will go back again. Children love it as well they can ride on trams,a novelty for them. Mau Have to say I loved the programme as well ,rich family history there! |

Jenni, Brilliant idea!! For those in the South of Britain ther is the Weald & Downland museum at Singleton, Sussex . This is a collection of old houses 'salvaged' from all over the country. They have Special Events' like the heavy horse show, where the horses are ploughing, dragging wood etc. and the Autumn Event is threshing etc. - just google Weald & downland Museum, and there is a virtual tour of the buildings!! I'm sure there is a similar museum in the North of England - the Beamish Open Air museum. maggie |

Hi Sal,,that was good still sniffing,,,OH, son and girlfriend also here,,,talk about looks,,but I don't care,,anyone know who's next? Would be good if a trip could be arranged to a living museum or the like,,just to see how life was,,you'd need a few days though a flying visit would'nt be enough lol! Jenni *blowing nose again*xx |
