*resists temptation to say 'usually a vowel or two' Seriously though Tink I think it's a Jewish name but don't know the Hebrew meaning. Did a Google but not showing info you want,unless someone knows different. Mau xx

Hiya.....I would say it was a Russian Jewish name originally.... it might have been Katzov......meaning son of Katz......Katz is perhaps from the German Katze....meaning cats..... does that fit?....

i have just got granddads death certificate and ive always been told that granny and granddad came to england in the 1930s and changed there names and they came from poland, the name on the certificate isnt the name as we were told as kids so it might look liike someone in the fam ily could have been telling us porkies lol so im trying to piece the jigsaw together

Google throws up lots of people with KATZOFF as a surname and the common thread seems to be displaced Jews!! Hope this helps
