There is currently an online petition to the U.K. government to reduce the classified period for U.K. Census information from 100 years to 70 years. The petition can be signed by all U.K. residents or citizens. As of the 23rd January 2007, only 9732 people have signed the petition. The deadline to sign is the 8th March 2007. It would appear that not many people are aware of this petition so please inform your contacts. The web site is: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/censusinfofreed I think all of us who are interested in family history ought to sign the petition. |
