Was your Dad an only child. If so have you tried looking for his dad's marriage a few years either side of your Dad's birthday (if you know when that is). Do you have an area to look at (where your Dad was born.) Is his dad likely to be found in the 1901 census? Ann Glos

How do I go about finding my Dads family if I think he lied about them so much, I seem to come up against brick walls and always playing the guessing game. He told me his dad had one name and found out it was nothing like it and was in fact the same as his name. I now have his real name but dont know when he was born or where Help!!!!!

Hi Michelle, I had the same problem with my mums side of the family to start with, mum didn't know anything about her mother and she didn't want us to know anything about her dad. The first thing you need is a copy of your dads birth certificate with both parents full names. If you know your dads full name and date of birth you can find the Gro index on Ancestry and send off for it from the GRO site. http://www.ancestry*co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx www.gro.gov.uk Fiona.
