I would like to have those census's which are avaliable released. My ancestors on those census's mostly all are dead, or were small children at the time, and to be honest, for what info is disclosed on them, I doubt the persons address, age occupation and whether they were disabled would be news that would be highly shameful...or not known to the family. In fact, I bet the majority of people diddnt even know what a census was, some bloke just came round and asked questions for the government. I say release the info and share the info. 99% of the people wont be living in the same houses so wont be able to be traced all those years later anyhow. E x |

Digressing slightly,, WE might wish to respect the wishes of our ancestors, Re Privacy........THAT doesnt apply to our Masters... They can tap our telephones, read our emails, watch our every move on CCTV.,.....track our cars on the road. make us carry ID cards......the list Could go on........ Bob |

I added to another thread about this. I believe that the privacy of those who filled in those forms believing that the information would be secret for 100 years deserves to be respected. |

Ross, you are new to this site, so you won't have seen how many threads have been up already on this subject, about three a day usually. As was already mentioned, the 1931 does not exist, it was destroyed in WW2, the 1941 wasn't taken because of the war. I'm all for people signing the petition if thats what they want but personally, I would rather respect my ancestors who all gave their details and were told they would be kept private for 100 years. I governments want to shorted that time for future census then thats fine. |

hello if you really want to access the 1911 1921 and 1931 census as i feel most of us on this site want to then you can do something about it. on the 10 downing street website there are petitions which you can sign. there is one to have the length of time census are closed for reduced from 100 to 70 years. this would then allow the 1911 1921 and 1931 census to be opened. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/CensusInfoFreed/ this will be a great help to many of us so if you want to be a help then please please please add your name and details to the patition but dont forget to check your emails after you have done it to confirm that you have added your name to it. thanks ever so much. ross fletcher here is the link http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/CensusInfoFreed/ |
