Has your screen ever cracked? Do you know how it happened? Do you know what would cause a screen to crack? By the way its not my problem. It is someone I know. She tells me it wasnt knocked and didnt fall from a surface. Any advice gratefully recieved. Thanks Fi

We have three and have had laptops for quite a number of years now. Laptop screens do not overheat and as they are made of glass would not crack due to this. They crack if they have been knocked or dropped.

My laptop is about 4, never cracked the screen though. Usually it would happen from a blow - ever by fallinf or being hit. I suppose extream temperature canges could do it - after all lot had liquid crystal displays so if it got too cold and started to freeze, the crystals could hyperphetically expand and break the screen, but I would expect that the temperature to have to be exceptionally cold to do it.

Thanks. I assumed there would be no other reason why this would happen unless it had been dropped or knocked. I wonder if she will be able to get a new one or have it repaired. It was a christmas present and the close relatives that brought it for her do not live in the UK. Fi
