no TV licences fines

there is a list in our local paper of people who have been caught without TV Licences. The fines they received are all differnt ranging from £100 to over £300. If they all committed the same crime why dont they get fined the same amount? |

I think it depends on the length of time that they have not had one for ............... Same as the fines for untaxed cars can vary depending on how long the individual has evaded vehicle licensing for ......... (used to work in a Magistrates Fines Centre) |

I knew there had to be a simple solution lol Just thought if they all committed the same crime they should all be penalised the same. What happened to the big fine and imprisonment that they tell you about on TV? |

Not only do you have to pay the fine but you also have to buy a tv licence which with the price they are can work out expensive. |

Well I can tell you that fines for vehicle licence (road tax) evasion, normally include any back duty ie. unpaid tax ...... so maybe they do the same with TV licensing fines as well. Oh and I believe the prisons are over flowing aren't they ?? lol |
