my son was surprised the first time he visited me in Norwich. I met him at the station, where we caught a bus into the city centre. The queue was nice and orderly while we were waiting, but once the bus turned up, it was each man for himself, a real bottleneck at the entrance. My son said, 'Nice to see people around here have a good concept of queing' |

Good manners used to be very important........unfortunately, they seem to matter less and less in today's society. I can only envisage things deteriorating even more, and I feel very sad about it. Reg |

Yes manners are very important and I think most people think that way but there are always the few and not only the young for example we went to Malta in Nov we were picked up by the tour co. in a small van so as I use a stick to get around I went to the passenger door while OH was handing in luggage -- standing there a 'gentleman' of the same age as myself came up pushed his hand in front of me and pulled back the door he then literally gave me a shove and said as he climbed in 'I'm having these seats'! he also had a stick but unbelievable or what? Shelli your kids sound like mine. I was at my daughter's parents evening just before christmas and was told my daughter was polite and well behaved. I was tempted to ask if we were talking about the same child ;-) |

BC as if I would! Actually that did sound like granny bashing didn't it? I didnt mean it that way. I suppose the point I missed making was that elderly people seem to expect things automatically, but do not always give it in return. You shoudl see the looks I get sometimes because I walk with a stick! Its as though they are saying 'How very dare you use a stick at your age!' You're not old BC.....are you? PMSL! |

Been said loads of times, but manners cost nothing. All of my four kids have been taught to give up their seats on the bus if it is needed. And despite being abosulte little s*ds at home, they have all been complemented on their manners out of the home. So guess I must be doing something right??? |

BC My Dear I was always told to abide by these 5 rules 1/ Always give up ones seat on public transport to my elders 2/ Always say please and thank you 3/ Always hold open doors for elders and ladies with or without children in prams 4/ When walking out with a young lady always place ones self between the lady and any danger from motor cars, the same when walking with young children 5/ Always when visiting a Restaurant pull out the chair so the lady can sit down, let the lady order first, when a lady leaves or rejoins the table stand up I taught both my boys these 5 rules and so far it seems to have worked lol so yes manners are important Sxx |
