Afternoon all, I've just found the details one of my grans Uncles on the British War Graves site thingy and it tells he hes on the Loos Memorial. He died the first day of the battle! How harsh is that. Anyway is anyone a regular visitor to France? I would like to plan a trip to go and get a photo but I've never been to France and wondered if anybody has any suggestions of where to stay? Thank you Sx

How sad. Obviously you may wish to travel yourself but if not, I believe there are firms that would photograph a grave for you. Your local British Legion may be able to advise. They sometimes run organised visits to war graves too. Gwyn

LoL yeah you'd make a good one Paul, I did think about that but I don't really have an interest in visiting the other places as I don't know of any relatives that would be there. I only know of the one a Loos. Just thought I could make a holiday of it for a week and visit it during that week. I may think about the tours tho, I'll PM you Paul. Sx

i agree with gwyn stacey, you should maybe go on a tour with the legion. you will get so much better information from the tour guides, most of which have direct testimony from those who were there. i went on a battlefield tour to ypres and the somme last year, something i will never forget. i can give you some numbers of tour operators if you want to PM me? at least with a group you get fed and watered and looked after generally. good way to meet friends too! i should be a salesman shouldnt i?! lol! paul...

Stacey, if you 'Google' Loos Memorial France, there are some lovely photographs showing the graves and memorial where names are inscribed. Also lots of information is given, well worth a look.

I have a great uncle who was serving in Loos. He was awarded a DCM for saving someone's life. Fi
