When I had my kittens 18 months ago, I was advised to feed them a combination of wet and dry food. The Vet said dry food is essential to keep their teeth clean. A cat fed only wet food will succumb to tartare very quickly and dental decay is inevitable. The Vet advised a pouch (or half a tin) of wet food morning and night per adult cat, and a constant supply of dry food to graze on between meals. Fresh water must always be available. Cat milk is unnecessary, cows milk is harmful. And NO human food, whatsoever, at all. I have stuck to this rigidly. When I took my boys for their annual check up the Vet said they were the ideal weight (whatever that is) and their teeth were spotless with not a sign of tartare, which indicated to me that I am feeding them correctly. I hope this helps, Liz

Pepsi has a small tin of sheba salmon (fussy mare) in the morning, then some biscuits in the evening.

My boys have Go Cat biscuits available all the time and a Whiskas pouch each in the evening. They seem fine on this and because they know when they will be fed, they don't hassle. My friend feeds her cats on demand, so demand they do, all day. There's always one of them standing there howling. I would say that even though they are litter brothers, one is a lot bigger than the other, so genetics must come into it somewhere. Sheila

I am having trouble getting my cat to eat much at all, she went to the vets before Christmas very poorly and had lost a lot of weight, she was there 4 days on a drip and had blood tests he couldn't find much wrong except that she had a couple of teeth that could be causing her a bit of discomfort She came home and was ok until last week when she stopped eating again so she went in and had 3 teeth out,she is back eating again but a little at a time so i am having to give her chicken. Our cat eats two to three pouches of food a day and we used to give her a pinch of hard food in the evening as a treat. She is a British Shorthair and the breed is chunky. she weighs about 5.5. kilos . a recent viist to the vet we were told she is over weight!!! but we dont accept that as she has always been this chunky girl since we had her at 10months to now when she is 10years old. She isnt very active as she has overgrowth spurs on some of her joints ,which is a natural thing for her and not due to wrong feeding. think that why the breeder put her to the Cats Protection for rehoming. We have stopped giving her the hard treat ,altho this was minimal anyway, but wont cut back on her wet food. the instrutions on the packets are two to three packs a day for cats over 3.5 kilos ,which she is, She sometimes only eats two packs anyway

Hi Catherine The weight would depend on the size of the cat, I would think. Foodwise if I remember rightly it's a tin per cat per day. I feed my four on Whiskas dried food with the occasional treat of pouches ie at christmas and give them fresh water at least once a day, making sure it's topped up when necessary, usually at least twice in summer. I think cats seem to eat more in winter or maybe that's just my lot lol.

Mine has a right appetite-I feed her twice a day whiskers in jelly she won't eat anything in gravy. I occasionally give her fresh chicken and salmon. Sometimes I give her crunchies instead of the tinned food. What do you think is a good amount ?she has half a tin morning then evening. Those pouches, she would wolf down in seconds-she got an appetite like a dog. Anyone know what's an ideal weight for a cat? What's the best food and diet to give her? I only give her fresh water everyday too. thanks catherine xx

Our tom cat has three small meals a day, 1 of which is biscuits. He would eat more if we let him :))

Clic's has either 1 or 2 pouches a day depending on her mood but she has Go-cat crunchies down all the time so she always has food available if she wants it!! Not sure on ideal weight tho!
