The petition for the 1911 has been around for a few years now, and it has been reported on several occasions that the 1911 is in the most part, UNREADABLE ... however, what is left, is being transcribed and an earlier release date of 2008/9 rather than 2011 has already been granted. There have also been several reports that the 1921 and 1931 census were destroyed in WW2 ....and the 1941 census was not taken. However, every name added to any petition helps towards anything that IS available. |

I don't know if other people know about this but there is currently an e-petition asking the government to release the 1911, 1921 and 1931 censuses to the public. I certainly think the 1911 census would be a big help to amateur genealogists, bridging the gap between the 1901 census and the inclusion of spouses surnames and mother's maiden names in the birth and marriage records. If anyone's interested the petition is at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/CensusInfoFreed/ |
