Hope you get sorted Janet. It's awful when you can't get an appointment. Sometimes if you ask for a telephone consultation, the doctor will ask you to come in without an appointment. (I work as a receptionist in a medical practice.) I quite like the registrars even though they aren't at the practice for long they are more likely to take time and go through every option available. Most practices will not not agree to Home Visits unless you are elderly - depends on the problem you have. Our surgery release same day appointments and others can be booked two weeks in advance. Emergency appointments are given after/before surgery. If problems are severe though then you would go to casualty. Lorrainex

I really must make the effort tomorrow if only to stop the stress that it is causing me, then I have to try and see a doctor I know and trust and not a new trainee one. I don't object to them, its just this is too important. Each time you see a doctor, it is likely not to be the one you saw last time then you have to go into everything again, which i find very traumatic Janet

Ask for a home visit. That usually does the trick. I find the whole process unacceptable. Yesterday I asked for an appointment with the practice nurse. None available. Then I pleaded 'please can you find me a space:' Back came the reply that I could either go at 10.40 or 11 am. When I went the nurse was the one I had an appointment with NEXT WEEK for a check!! And she did the check there and then so no need to go next week!!!! They seem to do as they like. I've reached the conclusion that they get more for a home visit - that never seems to fail if I need to see a doctor.

I have just plucked up courage to make an appointment with the doctor (one of those problems that could be something or nothing but I am a pessimist) 3 days it has taken me and now I find they are shut for the afternoon. It's a fairly big practice so surely someone could have answered the phone. Janet Got in first thing this morning-had tests, now waiting for a scan but in the meantime if there is any change phone doctor. She did tell me what it could be but I am not going down that road just yet
