a while ago had a tooth out, was a bu**er to get out and part of the root broke off. They delved around but couldnt get it out and decided to leave it and said it would probably be 10 years before it worked its way out. WRONG gum has been feeling funny if I touch my lip so last night felt with my finger and can feel the lump just under the surface, question is will it come out on its own or will they have to cut open the gum to get it out. |

Hi Dawn, I too had this problem when I was in my 20s, I had a tooth break off from part of the root when it was being extracted, although the dentist at the time cut the gum to retrieve the said broken root it never all came out, mine eventually worked it's way to the surface a couple of years later coming out on it's own, your lump probably feels a damn sight bigger than it really is, my piece of root was just a slither but felt huge just under the skin, I never went back to the dentist, I just waited for it to come out on it's own.. I think it could do either. I have had a small piece of root work it's own way out but last year on other teeth I had to have roots removed at the dental part of local hospital. I was dreading it but in reality it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd feared and healed easily, - no stitches needed. A visit to dentist would be a good idea though because you don't want to risk an infection if root breaks skin. Gwyn |
