Thanks Karen, printed and will be posting some around. Please everyone, show your support for this. Portsmouth is part of our national heritage, something this government seem intent on destroying Portsmouth Naval Base has played an important part in our defence for hundreds of years. We can't lose it now, it must never happen. |

Karen just read your thread and have posted one also ...i am absolutely devastated...i have great affection for my hometown like all us Portsmouth residence...my family were navy ...my great grandfather fought in the first world war,my grandfather in the second which he recieved numerous medals and my father ...they were all based there....800years history doesn't that mean anything to them...the faulklands ...wev witnessed it.....the gulf when we waved the boys out and back in ....we had the best seats in the house my brother lived in bath square old portsmouth in a town house and had a top balcony...we had champagne we had the biggest union jack you could think of we had our flags ....then on the horizon we could see them coming home the shinocks flying over head and circling over numerous times waving from them...sailors taking off their hats and waving....like myself and my family and others there wasn't a dry eye ...you really did feel proud to be british...trafalgur 200 marking the battle of trafalgur...defeating the spanish...proud times ..now Mr.Blair is considering taking that pride away from us We owe it to all the sailors dead or living to fight this to the end......Our future genearations need their heritage and what they fought for ..xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)))): |

Karen, my Great Grandfather was from Kent, but since joining the Royal Navy, he moved to Portsmouth, where my Grandmother was born. My Grans sister married a dock worker, who's three sons all qualified by working at the docks, to join the merchant navy, so there is plenty of family history there. Gt Grandads name is on the Naval memorial too. |
